Description:

Inclusive research is a term used for participatory models of research, in which disabled people have active roles in the research process. This event will enable participants to learn more about methods that can be used to include disabled researchers who are investigating matters of practice which concern their own lives. The day will include a brief introduction to conversation analysis, which is a method for examining the fine details of interaction in naturally occurring contexts. Using video extracts, this method can be adapted to involve people who have no previous experience, including those with learning disabilities. Video is an accessible medium, and much depends on the lead researcher having a good grasp of the basic principles of CA, as well as developing creative ways of supporting disabled co-researchers to take part in analysis. Participants will see and discuss materials and ideas from recent inclusive research studies, and will have a chance to meet and try out activities with a disabled co-researcher who has experience of working with video.
