Applications are invited for the post of Administrative Manager to the National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM) based in Social Sciences, University of Southampton.
The NCRM has been funded by the Economic and Social Research Council since 2004 and commences its third phase of funding in October 2014. The NCRM provides a strategic focal point for the identification, development and delivery of an integrated national research and training programme to enhance the quality and range of methodological skills and techniques used by the UK social science community. From October 2014, the NCRM will become a collaborative partnership between three institutions with international reputations in methodological research and training in the social sciences: the University of Southampton, the University of Manchester and the University of Edinburgh.
Reporting to the Director (Professor Patrick Sturgis), and based in Southampton, you will provide comprehensive planning and professional operational delivery of all administrative support to the Centre across three sites in support of the Centre’s objectives and contributing to the Centre’s research, training and dissemination functions.This includes taking ownership of key activities on behalf of senior colleagues; maintaining up-to-date records and analysis of key planning data; managing the Centre’s finances; providing accurate and succinct communications, including liaising with colleagues at partner institutions; reviewing and maintaining the Centre’s various practices and policies; delivering effective secretarial and operational support to ensure the delivery of day-to-day operations; and, coordinating and developing administrative procedures between the Centre, partner organisations, stakeholders and the ESRC.
Educated to degree level you will have excellent senior management experience in an academic, research or similar environment and experience of working with financial systems, producing financial reports and maintaining budgets. You will have excellent IT skills and expert knowledge of relevant IT systems for web and intranet design and maintenance. You will have effective negotiation skills capable of building and maintaining organisational networks to support the Centre’s objectives.
The position is available from 1 October 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is currently temporary until September 2019; any extension of the contract beyond this date will be dependent on NCRM receiving further funding from the ESRC.
Upon appointment, your title will be Centre Manager (NCRM).
