A new toolkit that considers the role of telephone interviewing in qualitative research is available on the NCRM website.

The Telephone Methods Toolkit explores the advantages and challenges of the method and addresses practical and ethical questions.

Drawing on examples from current research, the toolkit’s authors provide practical reflections around how to address the highlighted challenges.

Dr Linzi Ladlow, Dr Laura Way and Dr Anna Tarrant – all from the University of Lincoln – explain that telephone interviews offer a remote route to fieldwork, with their value for researchers extending beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.

The toolkit was published as part of the NCRM Changing Research Practices for Covid-19 Times project.

Resources, reports, reading lists and guidance materials, including the toolkit, are available on the project webpage.
