Metaphor Analysis: Open Training Workshop

19th - 20th September 2006

The Open University, Milton Keynes

The workshop will explore how metaphor analysis can contribute to social science research. Current theories of metaphor will be summarised in order to explain how analysing metaphors in discourse data can reveal research participants' understandings, attitudes and emotions.

Techniques of metaphor analysis will be demonstrated on spoken, written and multi-modal discourse data. Workshop participants will then be able to try out techniques of metaphor analysis on their own data (or on data provided), assisted by experienced metaphor researchers.
