Metaphor Analysis: Theory-based expert workshop
8th - 9th May 2006
Venue: University of York
Aim: Having identified the empirical issues, we move to review the theoretical frameworks of cognitive and discourse dynamics, and their implications for metaphor analysis in social science research.
Organisation: Talks that present different theoretical perspectives + discussion and debate.
Speakers are asked to present an overview of the theoretical position and to address the following set of questions:
- How does the theory describe and explain the connection between what people say and what they think?
- What does the theory impose on data analysis?
- What does it allow and disallow as evidence of thinking?
- What does it not account for?
- How does the approach address the issues in metaphor methodology identified in the previous workshop?
A comparison of perspectives will be built up, connected to techniques for analysis and description.
