Introduction to Complex Samples

This resource includes a 15 minute video which provides a brief introduction to complex samples data. It introduces what complex samples are and why data collectors choose to design samples in this way. It then summarises the data analytic issues which complex samples introduce. It ends with a brief introduction to the ways in which these issues can be handled and advice for analysts is provided. This resource will provide an introduction to the issues associated with complex samples data sets and it will act as a stepping stone to more extensive training on this analytical issue.

About the author
Dr Roxanne Connelly is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Quantitative Methods whose research falls in the interconnected fields of Social Stratification and the Sociology of Education. Methodological interests include techniques for the analysis of complex social survey data, longitudinal data analysis, administrative data, and open social science.
