Description:
Level: Intermediate (I)
Tableau is more than just a simple data visualisation tool. It also gives people the capability to manipulate multiple data sources, create custom charts, build predictive models, and turn their plots into interactive dashboards and presentations.
This virtual course will run over two afternoons. It will guide you through the process of wrangling data, performing data analysis, and visually communicating outputs. By the end of this course you will be able to manipulate your own data to build custom charts. You will learn how to work with geographic data in Tableau, use predictive models to make forecasts, and create interactive dashboards and stories to share your work.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the day, participants will be able to…
-
Manipulate data and create new variables
-
Create non-standard exploratory charts
-
Visualise spatial data
-
Perform clustering of data
-
Fit predictive models and make simple forecasts
-
Turn static plots into dashboards and presentations
Topics Covered
-
Calculating fields: defining new variables and writing formulae
-
Complex charts: building more complex, non-standard charts
-
Mapping spatial data: working with and visualising geographic data
-
Predictive modelling: fitting trends, linear regression, and forecasting
-
Presenting data: making dashboards, stories, and animations
Target Audience
Designed for people with some experience of Tableau (equivalent to attending the Introduction to Tableau course), this course will showcase what Tableau can do beyond basic data visualisation.
Prerequisite
The course will use Tableau Public, therefore attendees do not need a Tableau licence. Attendees should sign up for a Tableau Public account ahead of the course here. Tableau Public can be accessed via a desktop version (only on Mac or Windows), or through a web browser. The demonstrations during the course will use the browser version, and therefore we recommend that attendees also use the browser version. There is no need to download software before the course.
