Description:

This course is primarily aimed at mid-to-senior level researchers/research managers working for VCFSE organisations, Government or Local Authorities. Places are allocated via an application process and priority will be given to applicants from VCSFE organisations, Government and Local Authorities.

Advanced Methods of Evaluation will develop your knowledge of and capabilities to adopt advanced evaluation methods within your own work context. Through a mixture of presentations, discussions, practical tasks, case studies and Q&A, this programme will enable you to develop the skills and confidence needed to apply a range of quantitative and qualitative evaluation approaches.  

The programme will be delivered as 4 x 90-minute online workshops, delivered on a Wednesday afternoons in May and June 2024. The content of the sessions will be:

  1. Evaluating (System) Change - This session will increase awareness and knowledge of frameworks for evaluating system change.
  2. Evaluation Tools (Part 1): Understanding Change – This session will focus on tools and approaches for understanding change and measuring impact. 
  3. Evaluation Tools (Part 2): Participatory Evaluation Methods – This session will explore a range of participatory methods used in evaluation, supporting beneficiary voice in evaluation processes. 
  4. Evaluation Lifecycle – This session will take a look at different approaches to communicating evaluation results, and how to communicate findings to different audiences. 

These sessions will be followed by 2 x 60-minute online support sessions in June and July  to provide follow-up support as participants apply the knowledge from the training in their own work context. These will be facilitated spaces, designed to explore and troubleshoot any challenges in applying the learning from the training, as well as celebrating successes. 

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and utilise frameworks for evaluating system change 
  • Identify and utilise impact measurement techniques and learning tools for understanding change
  • Identify and utilise participatory approaches to evaluation 
  • Select approach presentation and packaging techniques for evaluation results for a range of purposes and audiences 
  • Think critically about different evaluation/learning approaches and techniques, and assess their suitability for different contexts

Dates of Sessions 

4 x Training sessions:  2:00pm – 3:30pm, Weds, 15th and 22nd May and 5th and 12th June 

2 x support sessions: 2:00pm - 3:00pm, Weds 26th June and Weds 3rd July

The sessions will be held on Zoom.
