Professor Martin Everett, Co-Director of methods@manchester, introduced the day and Professor James Thompson, Associate Dean for External Relations, offered some reflections on the challenges and opportunities which PhD students face when conducting empirical research, including obligations and responsibilities to those being researched as well as opportunities for taking research out to the wider society.
